Professional Interests
Dave's professional interests are broad, having worked with elite sports people and teams as well as general community and occupational health. He has always been an advocate of hands on treatment but he believes that conveying understanding to his patients about their condition is his most important role. “If a patient knows what is wrong then they can contribute greatly to their own recovery, our role is to guide them through it and help them decide what to do and when to do it”. Dave is a keen runner and as such loves dealing with injuries relating to running, walking and fitness. His other area of great interest having devoted a lot of academic time to it is the treatment of back and neck conditions.
An interview with Dave
What do you do for kicks Dave?
Soccer at the moment! Although I am way too old for it and against the advice of my colleges, I am still running around on Saturday arvo's. The standard may be low but the fun is high.
What about the running?
DS: I just love it. It may not be the best thing for everyone but for me its something that gives me great satisfaction. I'd rather go for a run with a friend than a game of golf. Running is much less boring!
What is your favourite thing to do?
DS: I love going to work but I love my days off more when I spend most of my time with my young family. Anything with the kids is my favourite thing.
And your ultimate dinner party guests are?
1. Orson Wells
2. Robert Heinlein
3. David Niven
4. Marie Curie
